RSS attempt to attack Gilani foiled
According to reports, when the veteran leader reached the venue of the seminar, the RSS people rushed to assault him.
However, their plan failed when a group of enthusiastic Kashmiri youth encircled Syed Ali Gilani and shielded him from attack. The incident was followed by forceful anti-India and pro-liberation slogans, which reverberated the seminar hall continuously for half an hour.
The event was organised by the Committee for the Release of Political Prisoners and those who spoke on the occasion included Syed Ali Gilani, Arundhati Roy, Professor Abdur Rehman, Professor Sujatha Rao, Najeeb Bukhari, Dr Sheikh Showkat Hussain, Varvara Rao and Dr N. Venu. The majority of speakers stressed the need for an early resolution of the Kashmir dispute while denouncing the human rights violations by Indian troops in the occupied territory.
On the other hand, Indian troops pressed gunship choppers into service during a clash with Mujahideen at Maloora Shalteng in the outskirts of Srinagar, today. Two Kashmiri youth were martyred in the gun battle, which was underway till last reports came in.
The authorities imposed curfew and strict restrictions in Srinagar and all other districts of the valley in a bid to thwart Lal Chowk March, call for which had been given by the forum patronized by Syed Ali Gilani. Indian police resorted to brute force to quell peaceful protesters in Habba Kadal in Srinagar and near Cement Bridge in Baramulla town.
On the occasion of the death anniversary of Agha Syed Yousuf Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi, APHC leader, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi, addressing a function in Budgam, said that the mission of late religious leader would be continued against all odds.
The Norwegian Parliament has issued a schedule to debate the Kashmir dispute from November 15 taking serious note of the human rights violations in occupied Kashmir. The reports said that the Norwegian Foreign Minister would release a policy statement on Kashmir after the debate.

Russian-U.S. crew heads for space station
Friday, October 8, 2010
Alexander Kaleri, Oleg Skripochka and Scott Kelly are to join three other crew members on the orbital station after a two-day trip from Earth aboard the Soyuz TMA-01M, an upgraded model of a Soviet-designed standby.
In live footage on Russian state television, the rocket blasted off on schedule at 0511 local time (2311 GMT Thursday) from its launch pad at the Baikonur facility.
"Everything is in order on board," veteran cosmonaut Kaleri, strapped in with his two crewmates, reported to Russian Mission Control a few minutes into the flight as rocket stages dropped off. The craft soon entered orbit.
"I wish you every success," Russian space agency chief Anatoly Perminov told the crew.
Kaleri is on his fifth space flight and Skripochka his first. Kelly has visited the international space station twice on U.S. shuttle missions.
They are to spend six months aboard the station, a $100 billion project of 16 nations that has been under construction about 220 miles above Earth since 1998.
The growing orbital complex, a mix of mostly Russian and American-built modules, can now accommodate a six-member crew at all times. Cosmonaut Fyodor Yurchikhin and NASA astronauts Doug Wheelock and Shannon Walker have been aboard since June.
Construction of the orbital outpost will be finished following U.S. space shuttle missions in November and February. Single-use Soyuz craft will have to ferry all crews to the station after the U.S. space agency NASA retires its shuttle fleet next year.

Pervez Musharraf enters politics
"I don't see any political party in the country that can bring a change in the lives of common people. Therefore, I decided to begin my political career with All Pakistan Muslim League."
"I accept my mistakes and assure not to repeat errors of the past."
AGENCIES ADD: Former Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf vowed Friday to return to politics as he launched a new party in London, where he has spent the past two years in self-imposed exile.
Speaking at a packed press conference, the retired general said the All Pakistan Muslim League would be a party of "national salvation" for Pakistan.
"The time has come to make Pakistan into a progressive, modern Islamic state," he said, cheered on by dozens of supporters.
Musharraf said Pakistan's current leaders were failing to "show any signs of light in the darkness that prevails in Pakistan".
He spoke against a backdrop comprising the white and green colours of Pakistan's flag and his new party's logo, the crescent and star of the national flag and a hawk's head.
The 67-year-old came to power in a bloodless coup in 1999 but quit in August 2008 after a new government led by the party of assassinated former premier Benazir Bhutto threatened to impeach him.
He was replaced by Bhutto's widower, President Asif Ali Zardari, whose government he has criticised for being hobbled by corruption and nepotism.

Big Solar: The Sun’s Rising Power
“The Sun Always Shines on TV”, a famous Europop song in the 1980s, could be re-released for the 21st century, just slightly modified: nowadays, the sun always shines on PV.
Photovoltaic solar panels have become a symbol of renewable energy and a greener future – unfortunately, they still represent less than 0.1 percent of global energy production.
But growth is tremendous. Solar capacity in Germany, the world’s leading PV nation, will double in 2010 from 10GW to 20 GW, estimates the Swiss bank UBS. And despite Germany’s moderate climate, these solar panels do already produce massive amounts of electricity.
Figures from the European Energy Exchange show that solar power accounted for 10 percent of Germany’s electricity consumption during midday peak load on more than ten days in July 2010producing some 7GWh of solar power, comparable to the power output of seven nuclear power plants.
